Surprising, considering how many standardistas were rationalizing and lobbying for IE8's default version targeting that would prioritize old Microsoft technology. Somehow they got a big part of the mindshare to be satisfied with the bad option and then flipped the script, looking like heroes. This was the first time the barrage of rhetoric from Zeldman and co. didn't convince me and I'm glad it's a now a moot issue anyways.
